Many bands throughout the history of music have attempted to “blend” rock music with hip-hop, punk music with rapping, spoken word with modern composing and every combination imaginable. Y-BOT has finally got it right. Spawned from the ashes of London art-rock group Manflu and the legacy of My Bloody Valentine, Y-BOT presents a new virtually un-nameable vision of modern music. Y-BOT blends lyrics with the literary dexterity of E. R. Burroughs, Kerouac and Stephen King rapped, shouted and spoken while painting pictures of today’s world; hidden facts, first hand accounts of on the ground life in London and surreal symbolic landscapes of a world overlooked by the majority of the world’s population, coupled with a musical backdrop that organically blends the kinetic energy of Shellac and Gang Of Four, the intricacies of ‘72-‘74 King Crimson and Magma, and the funk groove sensibilities of the band’s rap/hip-hop inspirers like Kool Keith, Rakim with Quannum Project and Gunshot to name a few. The band has released two records to date, 2017’s full-length Young Blood Old Tricks, Produced by Warm Brain’s Rory Attwell, and 2018’s Flock, Herd Or Hive? produced by Collapsed Lung / Arndales’, Anthony Chapman. Y-BOT has gigged extensively since 2016, including supporting Mike Watt and Il Sogno Del Marinaio, and this past October’s France gigs at Rockomotives Festival in Vendome, and at L’Armony in Paris as well as supporting Collapsed Lung in London. Their Lost My Notes monthly podcast has hosted past musical luminaries such as, Damian O’Neill, (Undertones), Chris P. Mowforth, (Silverfish), Steve Strange, (Fastway) and Anthony Chapman (Collapsed Lung / Arndales). They will return to the studio in December to record again with Anthony Chapman. The next release is planned for early 2019.
